Darren Turner launches his assault on the FIA World Endurance Championship GTE Pro title this weekend. The ‘6 hours of Silverstone’ heralds the start of another season of ferocious competition between Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche.
“It’s going to be incredibly hard this year,” said Darren. “None of the competition will have stood still over winter and our guys have been working hard to make sure we have a competitive car to try and match them. The first practice session on Friday is the first chance to see who did the best job over the winter. We need to be up at the sharp end from the beginning to have a chance at winning the championship.”
2014 is an important year for Darren and for Aston Martin Racing, as they both celebrate their 10th anniversary. Darren has been a works driver for Aston Martin Racing throughout that time and celebrated many successes; not least two class victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours. In 2014 he teams up again with German, Stefan Mucke.
“I’m really pleased to be back in the car with Stefan as we’ve always worked well together,” he said. “It’s a long off season - it has been nearly five months since the last WEC race - so I imagine that everyone will be as eager as I am to get Sunday’s race underway.”
The 6 Hours of Silverstone gets started this Sunday at 12:00hrs. You can catch the action live on Motors TV or online at http://www.fiawec.com/live.html.
