TAKING ON A CHALLENGE CLOSER TO HOME

British sportscar ace Darren Turner will be competing closer to home in 2018, racing in the British GT Championship. This campaign will run alongside competing in the brand new Aston Martin Vantage GTE in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Turner will race the #99 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of Aston Martin Racing customer team, Beechdean Motorsport, alongside team owner Andrew Howard.

“It has been a long time since I’ve raced at many of the circuits on the British GT Championship  calendar,” said Turner. “British GT has been booming for many years now and the depth of competition this year is equal to many of the international championships. With full, competitive grids, it’s going to be an exciting season for the drivers, the teams and of course the fans.”

Turner is already a championship-winner with Beechdean Motorsport after racing in the European Le Mans Series with the team in recent years and winning the GTE title in 2016.

“I’m looking forward to sharing a car with Andrew (Howard) again,” he said. “It has been a lot of fun competing with Beechdean in the European Le Mans Series over the past two years and I know we have the potential to win races this year.

“Andrew has won the British GT Championship twice in the Vantage GT3 (2013/2015),” he continued. “So he knows how strong the car is and how well it works on the British circuits. I’ve always really enjoyed the time I’ve spent behind the wheel of the GT3. With a 6-litre V12 up front how can you not enjoy driving that car?”

The last time Turner competed in British GT was at the Silverstone round in 2010 when he teamed up with Howard and the pair scored a podium finish.

The British GT season kicks off at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the Easter weekend before heading to Rockingham, Snetterton and then Silverstone in June, just ahead of Turner’s departure for Le Mans. A quick trip across the Channel to Spa in July is followed by races in August at Brands Hatch and then the season finale at Donington in September.
