Darren Turner will return to the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2011 with today’s announcement that he has re-signed for the Young Driver AMR team. Darren will compete alongside Stefan Mücke in the No.8 Aston Martin DBR9.
The Aston Martin works driver is delighted to add the FIA GT1 World Championship to his already busy plans for 2011.
“I’m really looking forward to the start of the season,” said Turner. “Last year’s inaugural season was very successful; I really enjoyed the racing and so did the teams and the spectators. I can only imagine that this year will be even better as there is a very strong selection of drivers on the entry list.”
Along with Tomas Enge, Darren won GT1 races in Germany and Brazil last year. The pair also won the Tourist Trophy race at Silverstone but lost out on a technicality. This has left Darren with some unfinished business to attend to.
“Last year was full of highs and lows,” he continued. “The highs being the wins and the low point coming at Silverstone. It’s those extremes that make racing so addictive. I’ve had the Tourist Trophy in my hands now so it will be a big personal goal of mine to try and win it and keep it this year.”
“I won’t be racing with my old friend Tomas this time but I’m looking forward to working with Stefan. We have often been in the same team over the years but we haven’t been in the same car. We already have a great working relationship so it will be good to go out there and win some races with him.”
The FIA GT1 World Championship will begin in Abu Dhabi on 26th March.
